Australia, and specifically Tatura in Victoria, will be hosting the 2nd International Symposium on Precision Management of Orchards and Vineyards, from 3rd to 8th December 2023. Tatura is a small town on the riverine plains of the Goulburn Valley. The region is known as a food bowl and manufacturing hub for quality horticulture and dairy products for the Global market and is bordered by the mighty Murray River. Tatura lies in the heart of a thriving horticultural region that produces pear, apple, stonefruit, wine and many types of vegetables. Downstream, not far away, are production regions for almonds, table grapes, olives and vegetables.
The Tatura SmartFarm is Australia’s leading horticulture SmartFarm research facility, with links to the Mildura SmartFarm, enabling research and innovation to deliver high-quality fruit from orchard to export market. Researchers develop, use and demonstrate new applications of agricultural technology to achieve increases in marketable yield, product value and production efficiency in pears, apples, stonefruit and almonds. They also evaluate novel integrated pest and disease management strategies, high-density production, new rootstocks and cultivars and innovative irrigation and sensor technology.
As Convenor I’m delighted and honoured to warmly invite you to participate in this Symposium. We are well supported by my research agency, namely, Agriculture Victoria, together with the Australian Society for Horticultural Science (AuSHS), and a team of dedicated colleagues on the Local Organizing Committee.
We hope that you will come to Tatura to present your research (oral or poster), engage in discussion on the latest findings and technologies around precision crop management, enjoy a stimulating field day, and make or reconnect with friends and colleagues from around the world. The Symposium will provide an opportunity, after difficult pandemic years, for renewed personal engagement between researchers, academics, industry technical experts, leading horticultural and viticultural growers, and refreshing and inspiring travel to a sunny climate.
We look forward to welcoming you in Tatura, Victoria, Australia.
